How it all began:
Lidy originally qualified as a teacher. In selecting a major area of study while at Teachers College, she discovered an interest in Psychology. On completing her Diploma, Lidy returned to University to take up specialist study in the field. After six years and with four children of her own she graduated from Macquarie University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Psychology. The following year she completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Lidy now decided her first need was to give credit to her qualifications by seeking work experience in her chosen field. Her first employment was as a volunteer at Grandma's Youth Refuge, Ingleside, NSW, teaching young homeless people Life Skills. This led Lidy to develop her first business venture. In 1988 and, as a young mother herself, this took the form of support groups for other young mothers. Many of those she worked with formed lifelong friendships as a consequence of those initial meetings. In addition Lidy undertook more specialised training with the Health Department and became a Healthy Lifestyle Leader. She led groups for parents wanting to learn how to cope with toddlers and teenagers as well as for people needing assertiveness skills and stress management.
In 1989 Lidy was offered a teaching position at TAFE College teaching Organizational Behaviour to Management and Marketing Certificate students. For the next fourteen years Lidy continued to teach at TAFE, as well as at other private institutions. The subjects she taught ranged from Personal Skills to Workplace Communication and Job Seeking Skills. In her Professional Development as a Counsellor Lidy continued to participate in other courses of study. These have included a Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy, a Certificate In Transactional Analysis and a Post-graduate Diploma in Couple and Family Therapy. Lidy has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Community and Family Mediation and more recently has embarked on a PhD in Hypnosis.
